?Good Business,' a weekly 30-minute television program that debuted seven months ago on Charter TV, was named Best New Television Program at the annual LB Awards, held on March 11, 2005 in Long Beach, California."I'm thankful to Charter Communications and to the half-million people who live in the City of Long Beach for supporting this show," said producer and host Lee Godden. "It's an honor for me to interview executives who understand that businesses have a dual responsibility of profitability plus ethical, socially-responsible behavior."A recent guest on ?Good Business' was Russ Hill, CEO of the investment firm Halbert Hargrove, who discussed the elements of socially responsible investing, or SRI. Hill said that over the long term, well-managed companies that practice corporate social responsibility often perform financially better than those that don't have a formal CSR policy. Godden said, "I define an excellent company as one that consistently rewards investors and stockholders with profitable performance, and also pays genuine attention to five key areas:1. The environment, including pollution reduction, recycling and energy-saving measures.2. Community relations, including philanthropy, foundations, community service, outreach and scholarships.3. Employee relations, including fair wages, paid benefits, family-oriented policies and parental leave.4. Diversity, including utilization of minorities, women, the disabled and veterans.5. Customer relations, including quality management and customer satisfaction programs. Godden is the author of the book ZenWise Selling (Telsius, 2004). After a 20-year career as a sales executive with several Fortune 500 corporations, including Compaq, Godden now speaks to business groups on the topic of ethical profitability. Godden has written for the Los Angeles Times, and his regular "Advice for the Sales Professional" column appears in the Long Beach Business Journal. He also serves as West Coast correspondent for the PBS television series ?Ethical Marketplace.'"The Enron, Tyco and Worldcom scandals have obviously increased the public's awareness about ethical business practices," Godden said. "The success of shows like ?Good Business' and ?Ethical Marketplace' reflects the growing interest in merging capitalism with social responsibility." ?Good Business' airs Wednesdays at 3:30pm on Charter Cable's Long Beach Community Television. DVDs of past episodes are available to educators, the media and meeting planners. Lee Godden can be reached at (562) 986-5163 or through his http://www.LeeGodden.com website..

Clean Vacationing(409 words)Admit it. When the sun is out and you are at your favorite campsite or cottage on the lake the last thing you want to do is spend a lot of time cooking a meal. Often, when vacationing, the lure to purchase instant foods is strong. Unfortunately, these convenience foods often come over packaged usually including some type of plastic. As we can see when we come across trash in the wilderness, the plastics tend to linger the longest - other than maybe glass and metal. Nothing ruins the feel of a pristine, natural area more than a bunch of garbage. Numerous studies prove that tourists return to an area primarily for its cleanliness and greenery. In this era where the economy has come to rely more on tourism, cleaning up is truly a benefit for the community. We soon realized that walking by these messes and complaining over such disrespect, we were behaving not much better than the polluters who left it. Now when we hike we pack a supply of plastic bags (grocery bags work well) to clean up as we go. Often we earn up to $10 in returnable bottles and cans in the process. When you take a bit of time to clean up some trash not only do you have a better trail or beach to come back to, you have helped to make it safer and nicer for the next user. This simple measure just might influence others to keep it clean, as well. When on the water with the canoe we also clean as we go by diving for garbage below the surface using a mask and snorkel. It is amazing the finds we have from these excursions under water. One of the first times we did this, we found an expensive diving mask in about 30 feet of water ? enough incentive to continue this practice! We have found antique bottles, jewelry, fishing lures and reels. It feels very good to clear up a beach of shards of broken glass hiding just below the surface before an unwary swimmer splashes into it. It does not, however, feel as good to find a large fish hook by imbedding it in the bottom of your foot. Take heart in knowing you have done a good thing as your expletive echoes off the far mountainside. Imagine an innocent child stepping on that hook instead of you and decide if it is worth taking the time....

(ContentDesk) December 6, 2005 -- Artist Ed Booth will release his latest image, a signed and number giclee of Mike Powell, the current World Record Holder in the long jump.Powell, who broke Bob Beamons long standing record while beating Carl Lewis with a leap of 294.5 inches in 1991, was recently inducted into the Track and Field Hall of Fame."This image is titled "Taking Flight" and I wanted to catch the energy of Mike as he took wing, so to speakm" states Booth.Ed Booth is currently exhibiting in Booth 130 at The Laguna Beach Sawdust Art Festival, Winter Fantasy, located at 935 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach, California, will be held over four weekends, November 19th-20th, 25th-27th, December 3rd-4th, and 10th-11th during the hours of 10 am to 6 pm.This is my first time exhibiting at the Sawdust. I am pleased with all the positive feedback I have received from both show attendees and other participating artists, continues Booth.???Ed Booths exhibit also features limited editions of NFL greats Christian Okoye and Eric Dickerson. Limited editions are also signed by the athletes themselves.???The original oil painting of the Christian Okoye limited edition was sold recently during a celebrity auction at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas.???Also included in the exhibit will be another original oil that was commissioned for the Christian Okoye Foundation Celebrity Golf Tournaments and used in promotional material.???During the Sawdust Festival Ed Booth will be demonstrating his painting styles using oils and mixed media.???Born in Austin, Texas in 1958, Ed Booth realized by high school that art was his passion. Although studying both fine and graphic arts did not lead to a career in the arts, the first several years after graduation helped him learn to "know myself - my limitations as well as my abilities." After a tour of military duty he enrolled in college to study landscape architecture and graphic design.???The California real estate bust in the early 90s focused his efforts in graphic arts and he established a successful graphic design firm. However, fine art remained his first love and whenever possible he steps away from his computers and to his easel.???Acknowledged by his peers as a master of the use of color and a self-avowed student of composition, Ed brings to his images a sense of life and vibrancy not often found in contemporary works. Depending on his subject matter, Ed will paint in either a soft impressionistic style or if the subject dictates, a bold style bordering on abstract expressionism.???He readily admits to being influenced by Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gaugin and Robert Clunie as well as contemporary masters LeRoy Nieman, Richard Coons and Howard Behrens. He has equal facility with both brush and knife and is very adept at using a limited palette.???A keen sense of how man interacts with nature, and of how nature often has the upper hand in those interactions, is one of the hallmarks of Booth's work. Another hallmark is his candid portraiture of people at work or play.???He also has a deep and abiding love of nature. Influenced by Clunie and Coons, he is starting to explore the Eastern Sierra Nevada, John Muir's "Range of Light" and will soon be displaying images based on Sierra landscapes.???Ed currently resides in the apple growing community of Oak Glen, CA, in the southern end of the San Bernardino Mountains. The peaceful community is perfect for artistic pursuits.???For information on any of Booth's images, or to commission an original image, please visit him at http://www.edboothart.com or call 909-790-6781..
